A medical scribe specializes in charting physician-patient encounters in real time using electronic medical record (EMR) systems and existing templates. Duties include following physicians through their workday, generating referral letters, managing medical documents, and assisting with e-prescribing. Medical scribes act as data care managers, freeing physicians and clinical staff to focus on patient intake and care. The program is offered as an Advanced Certificate (36 credits, 3 semesters) fully online, and credits may be applied toward an associate’s degree.
